In the eye of the public, artists always do something abnormal. Maybe years ago, it is true. In fact, they have changed a lot, not only how they think but also how they live. Now they sleep early, but whether they wake up early depends on their state and work. Artists born in 1970s and 1980s are not aimless any longer; instead, they’re creating in a much more artistic and reasonable way, which is a great adjust. Creating aimlessly is like wading across a stream by feeling the way and designing is ignored in the process. However, artistic creating doesn’t equal to designing. To be exact, art is expressing the thought by hand and heart. But it is often easier said than done. When the work is completed, the artist begins the long time of waiting, waiting for the check of his own work and the pleasure of a good result. They never hide their joy when their work is well-recognized. Being frank and innocent is why the new generation of artists is described as lovely people. Their lifestyle is also influenced by their special character. Every day they sleep early, wake up late, draw something interesting, sleep early and wake up late. All they believe is that time will tell.
No art comes with ease. It takes the artist months or years to finish a work and wait till it is recognized and accepted by the public. Of course, the time is the shorter the better. The thought of becoming successful overnight is common among the 1980s which includes artists, and expressing it carefully makes people think they’re frank and lovely.
The “One By One” display shows the beginning and end of a display. It was held in Shanghai first due to the Expo 2010, and received lots of appreciation and reviews, so some works doesn’t come back. Now the display returns to Beijing.
“One By One” may be a display about time, because time goes from the first to the last and the sequence is set. It may be about space, because people are all on the way to a better place. It also may be a display about standpoint, because the ability to prospect determines one’s future career. Contemporary artists say art is a job to show one’s own standpoint, while predecessors say it is one’s lifelong profession. Anyway, art is a work, so artists must devote themselves to it, and what really count are the determination, confidence and direction. In another word, on the way of art, they need to keep advancing and avoid falling down.
Nowadays, the art has many more possibilities, and is developing to any direction. So what artists should do is to keep moving.
